Police arrest two men over selling dog meat

If you are one those who are in the habit of eating roasted meat especially along the streets, watch out. You might be feeding on dog meat or something like that ignorantly.

Well, the police arrested two healthy-looking men on August 2 who had just slaughtered a bitch to sell to unsuspecting members of the public.

The suspects identified as Bogere and Kitumba were picked by police officers from Kampala's Kalerwe suburb with a carcass of dog whose legs and head they had chopped and thrown.

On August 7, the two were presented before a magistrate's court in Kampala and charged with injuring animals. One was released on police bond and another failed to get surities and remanded until September 16 when they will reappear in court to answer the charges.

However, the duo deny the charges claiming that they were going to use the dog's meat for traditional healing and sacrifices.

This sends a message that people fond of buying street food could be feeding on non-delicacies unconsciously. These could include dogs and vultures.

Health officials and policy makers have to protect the public from these remorseless people who look for money in all corners even if it compels them to sell inedible and disgusting food, meat in particular.
